Marilyn Gentle (voice) is a classically trained soul vocalist. Mentored by her music teacher in secondary school, Marilyn has learned to use the tools of classical music to let her voice fly singing everything from funk to folk.
The early part of her career was spent within the Deptford/Greenwich music circuit via Malcolm Hardee’s Tunnel Club, The Albany, and various local venues, fast working her way toward performing live and TV performances for the likes of Gloria Gaynor, Twiggy, Apache Indian and later backing vocals for Eddie ‘Knock On Wood’ Floyd, touring in and around Europe on the Stax Music Circuit featuring acts such as James Brown, Percy Sledge, Rufus Thomas and Sam Moore.
Having formed various units including her own funk covers band The MGB’s and working at PWL on their white label dance tracks, Marilyn is now working in an acoustic setting with…
Dave Burrluck (guitar) who is a journalist, author, musician, songwriter and producer. His love of the guitar has taken him on a lifelong quest: from being a pop wannabe in the seventies, single releases in the eighties and an appearance on the Old Grey Whistle Test, to hard-rocking acclaim with The Intrepid Spaniels on electric slide guitar.
In recent years, specialising on the nylon-string guitar, Dave has co-founded south east London legends, the Los Dawsons; performed, written and recorded with Dos Rosas, featuring the unique voice and vision of Emma Fenton, and performed, written and recorded with East Anglian Latin-jazz band Verão! [ft Helen Abbey] who’s album, Unusual Girl, which Dave co-wrote and co-produced, was released in 2012.
Turning Marilyn and Dave’s acoustic duo into a trio is Nigel Pierce (bass guitar). He joined Shev & the Brakes, a signed band, in the early 80s, after studying with session player Joe Hubbard. He has performed bass playing duties in a number of original and cover bands and worked with several producers and engineers including Colin Fairley (Elvis Costello, Bluebells), Nick Lowe (Rockpile, John Hiatt), Fayney (Roachford) and Geoff Foster at Air Studios recording original material with Dusay and the Tin Gods. Along the way Nigel also found time to write for The Guitar Magazine displaying his bass-centric technical knowledge.
His extensive live performance experience in the Europe and the USA, including headlining at Richard Branson’s notorious week long parties at his house in Oxford, involves more bands than we have space to mention, many with Dave Burrluck where his interest in different musical styles has developed. So when Marilyn and Dave decided to expand their duo, Dave had no hesitation: “I know just the man.”
